The tenth series of Celebrity Big Brother kicked off with 2.7 million viewers on Wednesday night, peaking with over 3 million.
The 2-hour launch averaged 2.61 million from 9PM on Channel 5, adding 99,000 viewers on +1 to bring the total overnight audience to 2.7 million.
A peak of 3.16 million tuned into the live show hosted by Brian Dowling at 10:30PM.
The average was down on previous CBB launch nights on Channel 5. The programme’s revival last summer was seen by 5.2m while the January opener earlier this year averaged 3.5m.
However, the new series had little promotion and the rating is a strong improvement on the 1.48m who saw the final of Big Brother 13 just two night’s before. Coincidentally, the public series which has just finished also launched with 2.6m (2.7m including +1).
The likes of Julie Goodyear and Martin Kemp entering Britain’s most famous house proved more popular than Channel 4′s 24 Hours in A&E (2.36m inc. +1) and BBC2′s Vexed (1.16m) in the 9PM hour.
At 11PM, 1.7 million continued to watch live streaming from the house, while 712,000 viewers stuck around for Bit On The Side at 11:30PM.
Do you think this was a good launch night audience given the little promotion and poor BB13 lead in?
